Film songs in South Asia have always absorbed some of the best material from classical, folk as well as many well-known ghazals and other forms of Urdu poetry. This is one of the most famous songs by the Pakistani Urdu poet Qateel Shifai (1919 – 2001) who is known for his many famous ghazals and numerous film songs. This song was originally released for the film “Ek Tera Sahara” in 1963. Composed by music maestro Inayat Hussein the male version was sung by Salim Raza with a female version by Naseem Begum. The poet addresses his heart and asks it not to be restless for the one who has forgotten him as she will not return. He describes his sincerity in love as a corpse that is now lying uncovered out in the streets and admonishes his heart for falling in love.
