Occasionally, ghazals also follow a theme of an initial hope and joy that comes from a new love, such as this ghazal by the Indian poet Bashir Badr, (born 1935), in which the poet likens his beloved to life itself saying that all his wishes have now been fulfilled and he seeks nothing more from life. He compares himself to a darkened earth and says his beloved is like a moon-lit sky. This ghazal was originally composed and popularised by India’s legendary ghazal singer Jagjit Singh (1941 – 2011).
