This is a ghazal by Dagh Dehlvi (1831 – 1905), a prominent poet of the 19th century, a period which is regarded as the “Golden” era of Urdu poetry. In this ghazal, the poet ponders as what his state would be if he were to actually experience union with his beloved, something for which he would give his heart and soul. He refers to a promise his beloved has made and says he would wait for her to fulfil her promise but he has some doubt as to whether she will do so in his lifetime.
